Smash your Dreamline List Today in 5 Fast Steps

Seriously lacking the motivation at the moment to work on your Dreamline list? Here are 5 Steps You Can Take Today to Smash your Dreamline List.

Step 1 – Go find your Dreamline List

You know the one you wrote out six months ago and shoved in your underwear drawer? The list you forgot all about despite staring into space at work and thinking about those very Dreamlines that you wrote down.

Couldn’t find it? Ya goose! Now you need to sit down and write them out. You might need a beer or wine to help you along, or is that just me? Can’t remember how? Here is how to write out your Dreamline List. Now hurry up and get back here.

Step 2 – Cross it off

Have you actually done anything on the list? Yippee if you have! You are crack-a-lacking! Mark it off with a big fat red texta. Red is better because it makes you cross a Dreamline off your list like a boss

Step 3 – Put a price on it

Make sure you have priced your Dreamline List. Not everything will need a cost, but you have gotta know how much moulah you are up for to make this happen. If you want to check that you did it right, check out the Dreamline Planning Details post if you need Dreamline examples.

Step 4 – Take Action

Write down 3 things you can do today to move towards something on your Dreamline List. Who can you call, what can you research, what appointments can you book, can you write an email. Moving forward and getting your dream life means you need to take action to make it happen. Action = success.

Step 5 – Plan for Tomorrow

Before you go getting all snugly in your pajamas tonight, look through your Dreamline List again and write down the next 3 things you are going to do tomorrow to make it happen.

Now keep repeating steps 4 and 5 daily until you start gaining momentum. Once you start seeing your success and those big red texta marks, you won’t want to stop. Also, at least once a week go back to your Dreamline List and check over it. Make sure you are on track. If you can, stick a copy of it somewhere you will see it everyday without fail. The refrigerator and the toilet are two places that come to mind.

I’m Fine Thanks

Have you ever done something epic? I haven’t. I have never been one to want to change the world, just my world. But a few months ago, some guys from the USA had a message so strong that they wanted to share it with the world. They did something epic. They created a documentary called I’m Fine Thanks. If you have ever wanted the courage to change your world, then you need to see this movie. It will be the best $5 you have ever spent, the cost of a supersize coffee in the morning. Here is the link and no I am not an affiliate. I just want to share the message as much as the people who opened themselves up to the camera to share their message. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Entrepreneur or Employee??

You have completed the process of dreamlining are now you are ready to fulfil your dreamlines, commit to long term travel or simply spend more time being with friends and family or doing the things you love. However, you are still unsure whether to be an entrepreneur or an employee. Hopefully this will help.

In my humble opinion the answer is to do both. Here is why:

Your day job gives you a regular income which is nice for surviving in this crazy old world. My solution to being both an employee and an entrepreneur lies in bending your day job to your will. What do I mean? I am referring to temp work. Temping is great for your income and your free time – you know the old time vs money debate.

By taking on set length contracts you can continue to have a regular income, generally at a higher rate than a permanent employee due to the nature of temp jobs. In your spare time you can build on your business ideas. Then at the end of your contract, spend some time doing those things you love before taking on your next gig.

During your break from work, concentrate on building your businesses. The break will give you a clear headspace to work from and if you can change location and free yourself from your normal day to day life, you will find the break to be refreshing and inspiring. If your business isn’t quite where you want it to be financially you can hit the next temp gig and repeat the process until you are making money from your business.

Making this work financially comes back to setting clear dreamlines and being crystal clear in your conscious spending plan. Also having a target end date will assist you in sticking to your dreamlines.

So how does this fit in with your current life plan? Leave some comments below to share your thoughts with our community.

What is on my current Dreamline?

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

I am dreamlining of a Samsung Galaxy Note 2…

If you ever wonder what is on my current Dreamline list this is it. I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these – the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I am waiting for a 32gb version to be released and squirreling away my pennies. This time last year I was saving my pennies for my iPad, but I am thinking my new Galaxy Note 2 will be replacing it…

This Blog Post Could Change Your Life Forever

The Universe Doesn’t Give a Flying Fuck About You

Has anyone ever given you a big slap in the face? Not a real one of course, but said something to you that made you think “Wow, I needed that”. Well a guy who I don’t know just did that. His name is Johnny B Truant.

Through an email I received, I ended up linking to this guys blog and downloaded a Kindle book that he had written. Boy did I sit up and take notice. Excuse the words in this and close your kid’s eyes, the book is called The Universe Doesn’t Give a Flying Fuck About You. It is based on the blog post “The Universe Doesn’t Give a Flying Fuck About You” on that caused a serious stir in the online world. Until our worlds collided, I didn’t understand why.

It takes about 15 minutes to read and if you take it onboard, the content will change your life.

The book has a lot to do with Dreamlines and Dreamlining. Many of the case studies in Tim Ferriss’s book “The Four Hour Work Week” talk about the things that change their view on the world, and in some cases it can mean staring death in the face. It might be a little morbid, but often we need a wakeup call to remind us that we are in fact mortal.

Go ahead and read the blog post (and even The Four Hour Work Week), and then let me know what you think in the comments.

104 Days of Holidays Each Year?

I once was reminded that most of us have 104 days of holidays every year that we don’t really do anything special with.

104? What had I missed???? Weekends that is what. So here is a question for you. What exactly do you do with your weekends that inspire your life and fulfill your dreamlines? This is an expansion of one of the concepts I brought up in my article 7 Warning Signs That Your Life Is Off Track. So, since it is the dawning of a new week, let’s look at what you can do next weekend that will tick off one of your dreamlines.

Rally Car Driving

Is Rally Car Driving Your Next Awesome Weekend Adventure? Start Your Engines.

Step 1: Look through your Dreamline List that you created back in Dreamline Planning Details and Writing it Down. Also check out your bucket list.

Step 2: OK, you know that some of the things on your list are either too expensive to do immediately or isn’t something you can do in a weekend. But what is on your list that can be done in a weekend?

Step 3: Get a nice piece of paper and stick a big fat heading on it saying “Weekend Dreamlines”

Step 4: Write on that list, all the things you can on a weekend. Think outside the square. From my personal Bucket List I could:

a) Do the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb

b) Take a solo trip overseas (I could fly to New Zealand or a nearby island for a long weekend)

c) See an active volcano

d) Hike to the top of a big mountain

Step 5: Decide which items on your list are a real possibility ie Bridge Climb and Hike up a Big Mountain in my case

Step 6: Take action and book/do one in the next few weekends.

Step 7: Plan to do another Weekend Dreamline a few weeks after the first one and keep the momentum going. Doing this will make work worthwhile and it will help maintain your inspiration in everyday life.

So, straight off the top of your head, leave the answer to this question in a comment below. What can you do this weekend from your Dreamline List?

A New Start

Hi!  What is the most exciting part about deciding on your dreamlines? You get to make a new start. It is like a blank canvas. You get to create a whole new world for yourself. It is a time to focus on you. What do YOU want?

Let’s face it, all of us are busy. We are so flat out just living that we can forget how to have a life. Think about it. We are pulled in so many directions, career, bills and finances, our social life, spending time with our family…the list is endless. With only so many hours in a day and what seems like even fewer hours in our weekend, sometimes we just don’t remember how to have fun. We forget why we are doing it all in the first place.

Angkor Wat at SunriseSo here are some questions for you. When was the last time you purposely set out to have fun? When was the last time you set your heart on that special ‘something’ and put aside money for it instead of just dreaming about it? When did you last take the time to learn something new? Something just for you. Not your career, not because you needed to, because you WANTED to.

How often do you get to truly work on a plan to achieve what you want in your life? To me, that is what Dreamlining is all about. It is not about planning your life to the last detail, it wouldn’t be any fun without the spontaneity that keeps it interesting. It is about making sure that your life is as close to what you want it to be as possible.

So the question is what do you want to BE, DO and HAVE?

Dreamline Planning Details

Previously I promised to go further into detail about Dreamline Planning. The more you put into the planning process, the more you will get out of it. Using two of the examples from the last post, I will show you the final step in the Dreamlining process.

The two most important differences between Dreamlining and Goal Setting are adding a cost to your dreams and implementing a day by day plan to achieve them.

Dreamline Planning

Putting together a plan to fulfil a Dreamline is a lot of fun. Actually right now is a great time to work on Dreamlining for the next 6 month and 12 month period. So what is it that you really want to BE-DO-HAVE in the next 6 and 12 months? Feel free to share your Dreamline** with our community here (or email me direct at if you want to add pictures) once you have completed it. If you have never done this type of planning before, that is ok, we can do it together. I am due to put together my next collection of goals as my last Dreamline checklist actually finished today.

There is one Dreamline that didn’t get completed though. Strangely enough, I actually was thinking about it today before finding it in my Springpad checklist just then. That shows the power of writing things down. So the only item that didn’t get checked off my list was to get my car detailed. There is a perfectly good reason for that, the last month had a few unexpected expenses on my car thrown in that cost WAY more than a humble detail.

So here is what you need to do. Get 2 x sheets of paper and write 6 months on the top of one and 12 months on the top of the other. Write BE-DO-HAVE  down the side then start writing down ideas in each of these sections.

Finalise the ones you want to keep and find a place to write them down so you can access and see them easily. In my household, they live on the fridge…not that I am saying I am looking at the fridge door often – not at all lol!! So once you have written down what they are, you will need to cost them out. Here is an example of how you do it.

BE- Learn to be a healthy cook.

Total cost $0

Total daily income required $0

Next Step: Search for healthy recipes online and pick a new one to try.

DO- Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb

Total cost $208

Total daily income required $1.14

Next Step: Set a date to complete climb then schedule a date to book it (about 6 weeks out from the date)

HAVE- Sweet new RGB Computer Monitor for my Digital Scrapbooking business

Total cost $799

Total daily income required $4.38

Next Step: Set up an online savings account and auto transfer money from my transaction account with a scheduled end date.

This is the basic process for putting together your Dreamline worksheet. In my next post, I will go further into the details of each item and what to schedule so that your Dreamline is complete.

** NOTE: The details of your submitted Dreamline will be reviewed before being added to the website.

Don’t just let your Dreams be Dreams

Procrastination is a bad thing really. It holds us back from what we really want and need to get done. For years I procrastinated starting my dream business, and then one day, I just decided that I was going to start. And so I have. I also procrastinated going overseas for the first time. The media made is seem all too scary. Guess what? It was soooo not scary, it was heaps of fun. What about saving all my coins for an iPad? I really wanted one, but I didn’t have the funds to just buy one. So I saved every penny I could find for 8 months, including a few donations from those who knew I was saving, and then I had the pleasure of purchasing it 4 months ahead of the scheduled Dreamline. I don’t need it, but I love it and it was even more sweet to get it after waiting to make the purchase.

One of my dreamlines was to do a cooking class in every country I have been to. I love cooking and I am not a fan of the standard menu of options. And so, each time I am fortunate enough to travel, I book a cooking class. Not only is it fun, but my friends love it when a cook up is on and they can try something new and exotic.

Putting off your dreams as life gets in the way, is just another form of procrastination. Sure, there are plenty of roadblocks, but if you never make your dreams a priority who will? Make a start, write down one Dreamline for the next six months. Something not too easy, but not too hard either. Feel free to share it on this blog too if you want to. Really put it out there. Your path to achieving your dreams doesn’t need to involve elaborate muse businesses, second jobs or being a bazillionaire, just the conscious desire to make the dreams that are important to you come true.
